Todays classic, 11/11/13: Adelaide Hall with Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra, Baby! (12/21/32). Personnel: Same as yesterday. This is another one where you have to scroll down to the link to the .mp3 file after clicking the link below. Just scroll past the rather long list of Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra titles from 1932 to the first one with Adelaide Hall with Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra. Click that link to download the .mp3 file. I bought a Columbia LP reissue of these recordings from the 1933 Brunswick album when I was in high school. This quickly became one of my favorites, the other being one that well feature when we get into 1933. Adelaide Hall scats the intro. The band adds its own intro with Laurence Brown playing a trombone break. Adelaide Hall sings the verse and chorus, with a pretty obligato by Lawrence Brown on trombone. Cootie Williams growls out the next half-chorus, apparently much to Halls joy as she is heard shouting off mike, Yeah! Hall comes back to sing the last half chorus and scats the coda which is pretty much the same as the intro except for an Oh, babe at the end. jazz-on-line/artists/Duke_Ellington.htm
