Todays forecast is brought to with Loch Mess Motor Homes, quality motor home hire right here in The Highlands. The last mild day for some time folks so make the most of it. An east west split across the area today, the thickest cloud further west you are with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle this morning but this turning heavier later. Cloud more broken with some sunny spells further east sheltered from the strong SW wind. Temperatures reaching between 8 and 11c Rain in the west this evening will spread SE but tend to break up as it cross the Great Glen with colder, clearer weather following on behind. Overnight - showers will feed in from the west and these will turn increasingly wintry with snow to low levels by morning, fresh accumulations of 5cm possible, especially above 150m. Feeling bitterly cold in a freshening westerly wind which will cause snow to drift. Min 0c Wednesday will be a cold, windy day with frequent snow showers, some heavy and merging into longer spells of snow at times. Snow will drift in the wind with higher routes becoming tricky through the day. The showers less frequent towards the Moray Coast and Aberdeenshire. Highs tomorrow 2-5c but with a high wind chill. Heavy snow showers will continue overnight into Thursday with significant accumulations and drifting snow especially away from the immediate west coast and the Isles. We could well be looking at 15-20cm of lying snow above 200m by then. A bitterly cold night with a strong westerly wind. Thursday & Friday will see slightly less cold air pulled into the mix so showers below around 150m may well turn more to rain or sleet but above 150 - 200 m more snow showers and drifting is likely causing travel problems on higher routes. Saturday sees a blast of colder air from the north with winds increasing to gale force around the coast making it feel bitterly cold, all parts seeing widespread and heavy snow showers and drifting snow. these conditions will continue into Sunday. If you have travel plans over the coming days i suggest you keep a check on my forecasts and also check regular updates on Traffic Scotland, i will also do my best to keep you updates of road closures. Remember i will not issue advice regarding making your journey or not - that is your call. Please share this so all are aware of this expected snowy spell.
