Todays hospital visit was a bit overwhelming for Theo. Shortly - TopicsExpress

Todays hospital visit was a bit overwhelming for Theo. Shortly after I got there, two of his cousins came in. They had gotten the day off of work to come and see him and brought him a bunch of food. Knowing that Asian foods can get to be a bit salty, I asked them to check with the nurse or nutritionist before feeding him anything. They had heard that he had a low sodium content, so they added more soy sauce to their food. So, he couldnt eat it because he is on a special regimen of a high sodium drip and any variations could be misread. So next time theyll bring some low or no sodium things. When he saw them come in, he had a big emotional spike, of course, and started crying and they fawned over him a bit too much, trying to do things for him that he should be trying to do on his own. They also called his brother in New York to talk to him, which was another emotional moment. Then one of the therapists came in and made him walk several hundred feet and back. He was exhausted from that for a bit and just sat back in the recliner, nodding off from time to time until lunch came in. He ate about half of it before literally falling asleep while eating. About 10 minutes later another therapist came in to try and get him up again and do bathroom chores like brushing teeth, washing his face, etc. He was too tired to do that, so he was able to use the walker to get back to bed, where we plugged him back into the wall and let him sleep. The cousins and I had lunch in the family area so I could go over what to bring (and not to bring) next time they came and to encourage him to do things on his own instead of helping him. They had brought some dim sum, which was delicious, but a bit cold by that time. I took some home for later. Theyll stay a bit longer and go home. Ill come back tonight before rehearsal. I think that all of his various therapists need to coordinate things with each other so their presence isnt one right after the other. False results in my opinion from observations during other parts of the day.
