Todays interesting fact: The earth reverses its magnetism about every 500,000 years and we may be going through a reversal right now. The last one happened 780,000 years ago. And: A brief complete reversal, known as the Laschamp event, occurred only 41,000 years ago during the last glacial period. That reversal lasted only about 440 years with the actual change of polarity lasting around 250 years. Advice: I do not recommend getting lost in the woods with a compass when a geomagnetic reversal or geomagnetic excursion is occurring.
