Todays moment with mom: 10/17 After arriving back from Seattle, I came by to bring dad a present Id bought him at the Pike Street Market. I also went in to check on mom and surprisingly, she as still awake. Her breathing sounded like a mix of a purr and a popping sound. She had a grimace on her face. As I stood next to her bed, I thought itd be nice give her something peaceful to dream about. I pulled up. a video of a golden Hawaiian sunset at the beach with the waves lapping at the shore. As it started to play, moms eyes widened and she mouthed: wow! I played it a few times. I then pulled up a video of the Oregon coast and held it up for her to see. After a bit, she closed her eyes. I laid my phone on her pillow near her ear so she could listen to the sound of the waves. She tried talking, but I couldnt understand her words. As she listened, she closed her eyes. I whispered in her ear to go to the ocean in her mind, walk the beach, let the water roll over your feet, now sit in the warm dunes with a book... And just.... Rest. 10/18/14 Today I brought a box load of work to mom & dads. I set up a little work space next to moms bed. Mom was in and out of sleep as I worked through files to get them closed out and processed my receipts for work. When her eyes would open, Id chat at her, but inevitably her eyes would close as she drifted back to sleep. 10/19/14 After my nephews birthday, my sis, her hubby and I all converged on mom and dad. As we entered, dad was standing in the doorway between their bedroom and the hallway. He was singing to mom as the Celtic Women played on the tv in the corner of the room. Chris moved into the room and began talking to mom. As she talked, mom was doing her best to respond although her words were more sounds than words. I know she was trying her best to talk. Chris kissed and hugged her. As she was draped over mom, I could see her body weep... I slipped a bunch of Kleenex into her hand. As she stood up, Chris began to fuss with moms hair. (It was all kinds of crazy) We worked on moms hair to give it a bit of style and Chris applied some makeup to moms eyes and cheeks to give her a bit of color. We opened the shades and the window to allow the clean fall air to fill the room. Moms breathing was impacted by her ability to swallow today , but after a bit of suctioning, she ate a little puréed fruit and drank a bit of water. Soon Chris and Scott had to leave. As Chris said her goodbyes, moms eyes were locked on her 1st born and she seemed to be memorizing her face. After Chris left, I stayed behind to try and get more water into mom. I talked at her. She listened. She furrowed her brow. Her eyes welled up and a tear snuck out her right eye. She continued to listen as I continued to talk. I told her its okay... She mouthed :bye and uttered 3 distinct sounds that Ill believe was: I love you. I talked at her a bit more and she began to close her eyes. Sweet dreams Mutti... Sweet dreams....
