Todays post is about the updated versions of our districts K-8 - TopicsExpress

Todays post is about the updated versions of our districts K-8 Grade Level Brochures, developed by our Curriculum Coordinator, Susan Smith. The brochures were reviewed at the last meeting of the Curriculum Committee and then forwarded on to the Board for approval, which occurred at the meeting last Monday night. The brochures are to be posted on the districts website (and may be there already-I havent had time to check). To quote from Susans report: Page 1 of each grade levels brochure was developed last year and approved by the RSU 63 Board in June 2013. Along with our district mission and core values, Page 1 includes Language Arts, Math, a section about what makes each grade level special, and a section on how parents can provide support. This year, the schools counselors and teachers of Art, Music, Physical Education, and French have worked to clearly define student learning. These content areas have now been added to our brochures. The purpose of the brochures is two-fold. They: *Help us, as educators, focus teaching on student learning and what we agree to be most important; and *Serve as a way to communicate with parents and the public. The brochures are intended to be a curriculum guide and are aligned to the Maine Learning Results. Our teachers have all agreed that the items in the brochures are essential and we will strive to make certain our students have mastered these skills; ensuring that our curriculum is guaranteed (We **will** do this!) and viable (We **can** do this!). Over the past year, we have found the brochures to be a helpful tool. I encourage all parents to check these Brochures out on the website. You can print them, choose which brochures are for the grades your children will be entering next year, and use them as a point of discussion with your childrens teachers at any time. Also, these brochures are a great example of the work being done by our Curriculum Coordinator and her collaborative approach with the districts teachers and principals.
