Todays prayer: Mark 8:27-38 Lord Jesus, I bring myself and ______________________before your throne of grace and mercy today. I pray that no matter what others may think of you or say about you, we will always believe that you are the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. I pray that you will so move in our hearts by your Spirit that we will deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow you, by being willing to be treated as you were. May we deny ourselves as you did, by resisting the instinct to avoid suffering through weakness and fear. May we take up our cross and be willing to suffer many things if necessary because of our allegiance to you and your words. May we follow you even if it means rejection by important and influential people. May we remember your words that if we want to save our life, we will lose it, but if we are willing to lose our life for you and for the gospel we will save it. Remind us that there is no ultimate profit for us if we gain the whole world by amassing wealth but forfeit our own souls in the process. May we truly realize that there is nothing we can give in exchange or in return for our souls. I pray that we will never in any circumstance be ashamed either of you or your words. Instead may we always, even among spiritually unfaithful and sinful people, be proud of our identification with you. May we openly affirm your teaching gently and yet without apology. I claim your promise for us that you will proudly declare your identification with us when you come in your Father’s glory with the holy angels. I pray these things in your holy name, amen.
