Todays reading from the bible: SEEING GOD Moses thoughtI will go over and see this strange sight - why the bush does not burn up. People try to overcome the supreme difficulty in faith, which is trying to describe how they have met God or Jesus,by using human language to describe something that isnt human.to them it almost seems as if it is human. We are reading Mosesdescription of his experience. In his inner heart and mind he saw a bush burning. He had probably seen many bushes burning in the desert, but previously they had burnt away. This one was different, but why? It aroused his curiosity and he was drawn to investigate as he hadnt when seeingother similar incidents. The fire was the presence of God.Jacob. too, saw something at Bethel when he met God - a ladder set up to heaven and angels ascending and descending.( Gen 28:12).Isaiah had his encounter with God in the temple and saw seraphim, one of whom took a burning coal from the alter and touched his lips (Isaiah 6;6).Saul of Tarsus, traveling to Damascus saw a bright light flashing (Acts 9:3).God who is invisible comes, it seems, and presents himself to the persons consciousness in some visible form.Fire and light are prominent in the accounts people give. God still speaks to people. They describe his prompting of them to serve, to follow and to obey him. Sometimes there is some form of vision. At other times there is no vision but the voice is loud and clear. It is thus that apostles, spiritual guides, leaders, teachers and servants of Christ have been called. It is not a call if the hearer claims God has told them to do something evil, or silly. Always there is costly sacrifice.
