Todays scripture readings begin by laying out the fundamental - TopicsExpress

Todays scripture readings begin by laying out the fundamental truth that God is the author of every good thing, and that He alone deserves praise and worship for every good and perfect gift we receive. God is light and He shines in a consistency that is unwavering. We as conduits of His light can either block it or reflect it on to others. If we take credit for the good works that He does through us, we close down the aperture by which others view His light, and block His light and restrict the view of Him to others who desperately seek Him. However, if we are continually thanking Him and giving Him due credit, praising and worshiping Him for the good works that He does through us, we expand the aperture of the lens through which others see our works to expose His light and draw others even closer to the Lord who is light - and not to ourselves. At John 3:30, the scripture tells us that: He must increase, but I must decrease. The metaphor of us being a conduit between God and others - a hollow pipe - which He seeks to make holy and undefiled, having no plaque, or sludge build up in it, which, if present, would impede the flow of His light through it, may be helpful in the life of a believer who wants to serve and please The Lord without pleasing man. For when we surrender to God and seek to do only His will, the vision of His light chipping away the plaque and sludge (vestiges of the old man of sin) from our lives (the conduit) that impedes the flow of His light through us to others, will also open up our awareness to His Holy Presence and His unlimited power in and through us, in the form of the Holy Spirit. April 7 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. --- James 1:17 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. --- Galatians 1:10
