Todays the 50th Anniversary of Sir Winston Churchills death. In 1950 he came to Worcester to receive the Freedom of the City, a memorable day for the city and one which many residents came out to line the streets and see. In the archives we have the files from the City Council containing the correspondence with Churchill trying to find a date for him to come, as well as the details about all the preparation which went into hosting the visit. We have photos of his visit too - unsurprisingly many Worcester people took photos, and a few took home movie footage as well. We also found a photo from shortly after his death of a poster for his Memorial fund, taken at Blackfriars.
