Todays update on the invalidation of Blaine ... As the FNP - TopicsExpress

Todays update on the invalidation of Blaine ... As the FNP typically does with late-breaking news, they released an initial story yesterday afternoon and have a follow-up today that includes more reactions & quotes. One thing you will find is that Jan intends to appoint a Council member to the vacant seat. This is a good thing. There has traditionally been a Commissioner on the Planning Commission, and I see no reason not to have a Council member there now. This time around, I hope that the CE and the Council have a specific discussion about the role of the Council member on the Planning Commission. Specifically, they should discuss whether it should be as a full voting member, and whether that includes voting on matters that will also come before the Council. Many people disagreed with the fact that Blaine voted on issues first before the FCPC and then before the BoCC. Personally, that didnt bother me as much as the fact that he was active on issues where there was a blatant conflict of interest. I think that a Council member should be a full voting member on the Planning Commission, but should abstain from voting on matters that will also come before the Council. There is a fair amount of precedent for this approach. However the decision, I just hope that there is a specific discussion on this issue and that a decision is made as a matter of policy and not the personal preference of the Council member. Regards, Steve PS - thank you for those that have mentioned my name for the Planning Commission. I sincerely appreciate your confidence and opinion of me for making those suggestions. fredericknewspost/news/politics_and_government/ag-opinion-young-s-planning-commission-appointment-void/article_34a47ff8-c53d-5cef-ae71-a795b21069e8.html
