Todays voice of #peopleshistory: Vanessa Braided Hair. Vanessa is a Northern Cheyenne Tribal Member and Ecocheyenne founder, who is organizing with her fellow tribal citizens to oppose coal mine development and coal train exports from the Montana portion of the Powder River Basin to the Pacific Northwest (and then on to China). Nearly 25 percent of all U.S. coal reserves are estimated to lie in this area. Also a wildlands firefighter, Vanessa is a descendent of the Northern Cheyenne Otter Creek homesteaders, who found refuge in the area in the late 1800s after massacres, starvation, and forced relocations by the hand of the United States government.
