Todays workout is courtesy of the Great Dane Velo Club of Menomonee Falls. Their local campus crit. This kind of racing is all about being able to 1) recover at tempo, 2) maintain threshold power, and 3) find one more gear when you need it. This time of year, I can do none of these. But this is a really well structured simulation that should tell you all you need to know about where you are. For folks who want to know what this kind of racing is like, try this. Youll want some measure of the three levels mentioned above (HR, Power, etc) or else you might cheat or blow up early or both. Runner friends, take note of the chess match that is involved here as compared to (all but elite) distance running races. Especially late, you have to find places to recover for short bursts if you want to respond to a move or attack. Knowing the circuit helps. Knowing your fellow racers helps more. Have fun!
