Today’s Bible Verse - Matthew 17:7 7 And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid.” Jesus is the Son of God! In verse 5 of this chapter we read, for the second time now in Matthew, this confirmation from God that Jesus is His beloved Son! This time, however, there is the addition of these simple words - “listen to Him!” When Peter, James and John heard this voice they did what any grown man would do - they fell face down to the ground and were terrified. They encountered God, or could we say, God manifested Himself to them. When we learn to truly know God it can be a terrifying thing. Let us not forget that God has always been, has created ALL things, and is the ONE who holds all things together! We see glimpses of His majesty in the book of Revelation, as well as the times that He showed Himself to Moses. In the midst of this terrifying moment, Jesus comes to them, touches them, and tells them not to be afraid. Jesus - God’s Son, the mediator between us and God! You see, Jesus comes to us, in human form, to walk with us, to save us, to transform us, to usher us into God’s very presence. He still beckons to us today, “Get up, and don’t be afraid!” Trust Him.
