Today’s Date: October30, 2013 Prepared by: PIO Art Forgey Release #: 2013-051 Media Advisory: Smart911 Kick Off The Alachua County Combined Communications Center and its partner agencies (Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Gainesville Police Department, Alachua County Fire Rescue, Gainesville Fire Rescue and the Waldo Police Department), along with the Alachua County E911 Office, will hold a joint Press Conference to announce a new public safety initiative for all citizens of Alachua County. The event will take place on Monday, November 4th, at 11 a.m., and will showcase the new Smart911 technology. Please join us in the Communications Center as we unveil the newest technology to arrive in the center. The Combined Communications Center is located on the campus of the Sheriff’s Administration Headquarters and can be found at 1100 SE 27th Street, Gainesville, Florida. Smart911 is a free service that allows citizens across the U.S. to create a Safety Profile for their household that includes any information they want 9-1-1 to have in the event of an emergency. Then, when anyone in that household dials 9-1-1 from a phone associated with their Safety Profile, their profile is immediately displayed to the 9-1-1 call taker providing additional information that can be used to facilitate the proper response to the proper location. At a time when seconds count, being able to provide 9-1-1 with all details that could impact response the second an emergency call is placed could be the difference between life and death. Responders can be aware of many details they would not have known previously. Fire crews can arrive at a house fire knowing how many people live in the home and the location of bedrooms; EMS can be advised of allergies or specific medical conditions and law enforcement can have the photo of a missing child in seconds rather than minutes or hours. Smart911 is a national service and is currently available in several counties in Florida including Jackson, Hamilton, Lafayette, Union, Taylor, Gilchrist, Lake, Levy, Dixie & Collier. Anytime a citizen with a Smart911 Safety Profile dials 9-1-1 in a Smart911 supported area across the U.S., their Safety Profile will be available. This also offers a great benefit to tourists and visitors, as Smart911 is available where they vacation, and may be available at their home as well. Citizens are encouraged to create their Safety Profile with Smart911 today to have their information immediately available to 9-1-1. Smart911 data is private and secure, is only used for emergency responses and is available to the 9-1-1 system in the event of an emergency call. Visit the Smart911 website at smart911 to create your profile today.
