Today’s Scriptures: It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) “If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored; If you remove unrighteousness far from your tent” (Job 22:23) “…I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.” (Hebrews 11:32-34) PRAYER; Almighty God, we believe as the founders of the United States of America did – “Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God!” This motto, which came from a summation of Dr. Jonathan Mayhew’s famous 1750 sermon during the Great Awakening of faith in America, stirs Christian Americans today as much as it did 2½ centuries ago. We further acknowledge as they did that You have ordained government in lieu of anarchy. You oppose anarchy, rebellion, lawlessness, and wickedness and want civil government in society; but, You do not require us to submit blindly to every law or policy, especially if we believe it comes from evil or is against Your law. We believe, as Your followers, it is our duty & responsibility to resist & not support tyrannical leaders, who rebel or work against You. Jesus, our teacher and example of how we should live, did not comply with Jewish laws, which were in conflict with Your will such as performing miracles on the Sabbath. You raised up leaders such as Gideon, Ehud, Jepthah, Samson, and Deborah to throw off tyrannical governments. Through Paul in Hebrews 11:32-34, Your praised these leaders for following Your will of overthrowing tyranny. We ask You raise up leaders, obedient & faithful to You, from among us & help them return the United States of America and the individual states back on Your path of Truth and Liberty. We believe You were speaking through Rev. Jacob Duché when he stated this biblical support for the American position during the Revolutionary War: “Inasmuch as all rulers are in fact the servants of the public and appointed for no other purpose than to be ‘a terror to evil-doers and a praise to them that do well’ [Rom. 13:3], whenever this Divine order is inverted – whenever these rulers abuse their sacred trust by unrighteous attempts to injure, oppress, and enslave those very persons from whom alone, under God, their power is derived – does not humanity, does not reason, does not Scripture, call upon the man, the citizen, the Christian of such a community to ‘stand fast in that liberty wherewith Christ….hath made them free!’ [Galatians 5:1] The Apostle [Paul] enjoins us to ‘submit to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake,’ but surely a submission to the unrighteous ordinances of unrighteous men, cannot be ‘for the Lord’s sake,’ for ‘He loveth righteousness and His countenance beholds the things that are just.’” God, help us as we do our part so that You will heal our land. Give us strength, not only to turn from our own wicked ways, but also to call out & oppose those who are unrighteous in our federal, state & local governments. Guide our words and actions as we stand up to these wrongdoers and to unconstitutional, oppressive, and/or evil laws & regulations in our obedience to follow Your will for us, and for our country. Praying in Obedience to You and in Your Holy Name, Amen.
