Today’s announcement from the grand jury in Ferguson 108 days after Michael Brown was murdered and left to bleed in the street comes in the light of growing alliances, coalitions, and formations of our people organizing to say enough is enough. This grand jury’s decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson, is an unsurprising development consistent with the inherent racism of mass incarceration. However, this news only compounds the everyday affronts of police profiling and police brutality and militarization to the moral dignity of Black families, and Black people everywhere. Southerners on New Ground is committed to building this movement and organizing at the intersections to confront state violence for the safety and dignity of all of our people. We are coming together with thousands across the South and the country to build leadership, to say that #BlackLivesMatter and to call for accountability for Mike Brown, for Marissa Alexander, for Monica Jones.
