Today’s been a day of distraction. Thinking about work has been hard as my mind has been on Ferguson, both because I have a friend on the ground in St. Louis (he’s good), but most of all because what happened yesterday is unfathomable for me. How could they not indict the police officer (and at least let the court try whether he is/was guilty or not)? What has this to do with justice? And why doesn’t Obama speak up? All these questions, while simultaneously thinking about my own privileged position – as a white Scandinavian man. Music, as you’ve seen throughout the day, is one way of working-through, and I will give you a last song. I was thinking about Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” (first from Spike Lee’s film Do The Right Thing, and then released on the 1990 album Fear of a Black Planet), which still is a great track. But I do choose another one, with the danger of coming through as completely naïve. Here is Stevie Wonder’s “Love’s in Need of Love Today” (from the 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life):
