Today’s topic comes from a female listener, Good Day Lil D, As a single mother who is raising a 13 year old boy, how do you teach your child that fighting is not the answer but do what you have to do to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of bullying. This week my son has been a victim of bullying by 2 kids that ride his bus. They beat him up, talk down to him, and took his shoes. Not once did the bus driver bring these actions to the attention of school officials or me. Of course I went to the school and filed a complaint and they advised me that disciplinary actions will be taken but if this is the last day of school, nothing will happen until next school year. I contacted the police and filed a complaint, and the officer told me that it will take months before anything can happen and I should put my child in a self defense class. For the record, my son is in combative training 2 days a week. So out of all of this, I was told my child just should have fought back against his bullies. What happen to handling a situation, where is the justice in making my son go to classes to learn how to fight off bullies, and why was fighting the answer. If my child would have fought back and caused a scene, then it would have been my child that would have been in trouble. What do you do as a parent?
