Today’s devotional. DIVINE PRESENCE. 2Samuel 6:11 “And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household. David wanted to bring the ark of the Lord to the City of David, the ark was placed on a new cart and people were singing and dancing, until suddenly a tragic incident occurred. The oxen carrying the ark shook, Uzzah steadied the ark with his hands and God killed him immediately. David was displeased and the ark was no longer taken to the City of David but to Obededom’s house. Obededom became blessed.” God is present everywhere but His presence is not everywhere. Moses Knew this, He said, Exodus 33:15 (AMP) “And Moses said to the Lord, If Your Presence does not go with me, do not carry us up from here!. David knew how important His presence was, when he sinned, he pleaded with God Psalm 51:11: Cast me not away from thy presence.” At a point in the Israelites journey, the presence of God was represented by the Ark of the Lord or Ark of Covenant, whenever it is taken to the battlefront, victory is guaranteed. Moses knew that the presence of God is the secret of their Victories, Exodus 33:16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” The presence of God produces blessings, Obededom was blessed by God when the presence resided in his home for three months, we were not told the things that Obededom did during the three month period, but not to have been stricken by God, he must have kept himself and his family, pure, holy and in the fear of God. (1) The presence of God cannot be simulated. People may try to simulate the presence of God and may suceed in decieving people. But God gives his presence where the conditions are met (2) Intimacy with the Holy Spirit, when you have an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit, divine presence becomes a continual reality. (3) Regular quiet time with God, spending time alone with him, waiting on him, enhances our receptivity and sensitivity to him. It also attracts his presence (4) Praises attracts the presence of God. Sometimes God bypasses protocols to bless us with His presence because of what He wants to accomplish but the praises that will attract His presence regularly and not occasional stirrings must proceed from pure vessels who have yielded their lives to God. The psalmist acknowledge that God is holy. Psalms 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Holiness is a prerequisite for the manifest presence of God. God desires people who will worship him in spirit and trut. (5) The presence of God and sin cannot co-exist, God is holy. Whenever sin surfaces, God withdraws his presence. (6) Symbols of the presence of God cannot be used as a talisman. The Israelites were being defeated by the Philistines and they went for the ark of the Lord. 1Samuel 4:3 “And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.” The Israelites were routed and the ark of the Lord was stolen. (7) God’s presence is a product of our relationship with him, if you desire a continual presence of God, work on your relationship with him. Get closer to Him, spend quality time with him.
