Tom Arup wins German Grant for Journalism 2014 Tom Arup, who has been writing successfully for The Age since 2008, has been awarded the German Grant for Journalism 2014. Mr Arup works as an environment editor and covers environment, climate change and energy issues for over five years for The Age. The award, sponsored by the German Government, includes a one week journey to Germany. Mr Arups project is to investigate on Germanys “Energiewende” (energy transition) away from fossil fuel and nuclear power and he will try find answers whether Australia can adopt the German- style energy transition. His articles are planned to be published in The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald. The German Grant for Journalism has been awarded annually since 1986. The applications are assessed by a joint panel nominated by the German Embassy and the National Press Club. Mr Josef Reichhardt, Minister of Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, presented the grant to Mr Tom Arup at the National Press Club of Australia on 18 August 2014.
