Tom Harmon, father of Mark and Kris, joined the Army Air Force, where he became a fighter pilot flying P38s in North Africa. In April, 1943, his plane crashed in French Guiana and was the sole survivor. He was then assigned to Chennaults team in China. He shot down 2 Jap planes, and was shot down in Nov. 1943. He was reported MIA. Aftyer 30 days, he was smuggled back to base by Chinese. Harmon Married the daughter of U.S. Sec. or War, Frank Knox, as in Fort Knox. Her wedding dress was made from the parachute he used to save his life. Mark is a highly successful actor, and Kris, was married to Rick Nelson, who oddly enough, DIED in a plane crash.
