Tomb of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi Surprises Everyone: Yamin-ud-Dawla Abul-Qaṣim Maḥmud ibn Sebuktegin is better called as Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi, the first ruler of Muslim history who entitled himself as Sultan, and he was the second ruler of Ghaznavid Empire. He was son of Mamluk warrior Abu Mansur Sabuktigin and born in town of Ghazna, the south-eastern area of modern Afghanistan, in 971 A.D. After the almost thousand years, the Tomb of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi surprised everyone with a miracle. In 1930, a dreadful earthquake shattered the town of Ghazni and many homes vanished from the earth within few minutes. The earthquake also damaged the tomb of Sultan and the grave was cracked from middle. When the people decided to burry coffin of Sultan to another place and brought out the body, all were stunned to see it. Not a single mark of dirt found on the coffin and the body of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi seemed fresh as it was the first day of his funeral. People of Ghazni believed that Mahmud was very pious man and closed to Almighty Allah and that’s why nothing happened to his body and it was a miracle of Allah. Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi became the ruler of Ghaznavid Empire after the death of his father in 997 A.D. The throne of Ghazni was not handed over to Sultan directly and he had to defeat his brother Ismail. Once he captured Ghazni, he declared himself the only ruler of Ghaznavid Empire and successfully ruled for 33 years over Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and northern India. Mahmud of Ghazni died in 1030 A.D leaving behind a great legacy and buried in Ghazni, the capital of Ghaznavi Empire. During his rule, Sultan showed tolerance for his Hindu subjects and was very humble towards them. Every person in his subjects was happy with the policies and decisions of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi and praised his justice. Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi is known as a hero of Muslims and highly respected in all Muslim countries. Even after his death, the tomb of Sultan unveiled few secrets about this great Muslim warrior. 80 years ago an earthquake shattered the town of Ghazni and the tomb of Sultan also damaged in it. The local ruler ordered to rebuild the tomb of Sultan and also the grave. When the people brought out the coffin, they were stunned to watch the dead body of Mahmud of Ghazni. His body was still fresh even after hundreds of years of burial. It was a big surprise for all the people who could never imagine in their entire life. Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi was the prominent ruler of Ghaznavid Empire and became the first ever ruler to get the title of Sultan. Mahmud Ghaznavi was the political leader of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Northern India, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan whereas Abbasid Caliph remained the religious leader of Muslim empire. Abu Mansur Sabuktegin, a Turkic warrior, was the father of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi. Yamin ad-Dawlah Abdul-Qasim Mahmud was the real name of Sultan and later known as Mahmud of Ghazni. He was born in 971 A.D in Ghazna, a town of Afghanistan, and took the throne of Ghazni after the death of his father in 997 A.D. He ruled for 33 years successfully over a vast empire. Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi invaded India many times and his campaign in India ended with the destruction of Somnath temple and defeated almost all the Rajas of the country. Mahmud of Ghaznavi attacked India 17 times and got success and treasury in every campaign. During his rule Ghazni became the wealthiest capital of Central Asia. Mahmud of Ghazni died in 1030 A.D when he was 59 years old and buried in the capital of the Ghaznavid Empire. He left behind an amazing legacy in which Ghazni became the wealthiest capital, the city of knowledge, architecture and much more. His empire survived until 1187 and although it started to crumble in his life.
