Tommy Tom Alan Marshall, age 60, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014. Tom is survived by his loving wife Carol, of Indianapolis, his son Jarrett, daughter-in-law Allison, and granddaughters Kaila and Mia of Glen Carbon, IL. Tom was born on November 13, 1953 in Springfield Ohio to the late John and Mildred Marshall. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in New Carlisle, OH. Upon graduation in 1971, he joined the United States Navy were he became a Parachute Rigger and worked as an Aircrew Survival Specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1974 as a Petty Officer E5. On July 22, 1972 Tom married his high school sweetheart, Carol A. (Lambers) Marshall. They shared 42 wonderful years together. Tom and Carol taught us all the meaning of true love, and acted like high school sweethearts throughout their marriage. They shared many wonderful memories together including their trips to Alaska, the Caribbean and Disney World with their grandkids. Tom was a loving father to his son, Jarrett. Tom was very handy, a skill he passed along to Jarrett by spending many hours working on various home improvement projects together. Tom and Jarrett shared a very special bond as well as many common interests such as their passion for cars, love of architecture, and golf. His words of wisdom and advice will be greatly missed. Toms strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit led him to start Marshall Sports Wear Inc. at an early age. As owner from 1978 to 1982, he manufactured sportswear for a number of retailers including the jerseys for The Cleveland Browns. His company also made some of the original Budman costumes for Anheuser Busch. After Marshall Sports Wear Inc., he worked his way up through a number of larger envelope manufacturing companies to achieve positions of leadership. In 2004 he became president of Bowers Envelope Company in Indianapolis Indiana and eventually took over as owner. Tom was successful because of his strong work ethic, determination, intellect, and ability to relate to all people. One of Toms greatest strengths was his ability to communicate with his employees, customers and suppliers. Despite moving around the country, Tom always remained a staunch supporter of his Ohio State Buckeyes. Tom was excited about the family move to Indiana because it brought him closer to his family and friends in Ohio and he was back in Big Ten Country. Tom and Carol also learned to look forward to the Indy 500 each year, as Indiana residents. Tom enjoyed watching sports, classic cars, spending time with his family, and relaxing on his boat. Toms idea of a perfect weekend morning was going out on the reservoir at dawn to watch the sunrise. Above all, Tom enjoyed every minute with his granddaughters, who became his pride and joy. His granddaughters always looked forward to their special breakfast dates and boat rides with PaPaw Tom. Tom also believed in giving back. Tom was an avid supporter of the Abbie Hunt Bryce Home for terminally ill homeless individuals. Bowers Envelope has been collecting donations since 2007. Tom became a member of their Board of Directors in 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Community Health Network Foundation, Cancer Care Fund 7240 Shadeland Station Suite 125 Indianapolis, IN 46256 (317) 355-GIVE ecommunity.org or Abbie Hunt Bryce Home through Morning Light morninglightinc.org
