Tomorrow, 2.30pm is set for the hearing of N. Surendran’s application for his session’s court sedition charge to be referred to the High Court, on a constitutional question. This application questions and challenges the constitutionality of the Sedition Act 1948. N. Surendran has been charged twice under the Sedition Act for statements made pertaining to Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy 2 charge. His first charge was for a press statement and the other charge for a statement made on a youtube video. Both statements were critical of the court’s findings in the Sodomy 2 case and were made in the capacity of being Anwar’s lawyer. This is an application for the sessions court to refer N. Surendran’s sedition charge to the high court and to deal with constitutional questions raised.
