Tomorrow I return to work at my volunteer job at the Closter Borough Hall. A nice sunny day today. I took a nice very long walk today. Today is the last day without NFL Regular Season Football. Tomorrow night at 8:30pm a brand new NFL Regular Season gets underway. The last time we saw NFL Football, on February 2nd, in Super Bowl XLVIII, the Seattle Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos beating them 43-8 to take home the franchises first ever Super Bowl Title. Now tomorrow night, the defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks open up at home in CenturyLink Field in Seattle Washington against the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are returning to Seattle for the first since September 24, 2012 when the Seahawks beat the Packers 14-12 in controversial fashion. Here is a recap of what happened from article from Wikipedia: On the final play of the game, Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson threw a Hail Mary pass into the end zone intended for wide receiver Golden Tate.[3][4] Both Tate and Packers defender M. D. Jennings got their hands on the ball while both players were still in the air and attempting to gain possession. The two officials near the play initially gave separate signals of touchdown and time out, before ruling the players had simultaneous possession, resulting in a Seahawks game-winning touchdown.[5] Prior to the catch, Tate shoved Packers cornerback Sam Shields with both hands, which the NFL later acknowledged should have drawn an offensive pass interference penalty that would have negated the touchdown and resulted in a Packers victory.[6] The lack of a pass interference penalty and the ruling of a touchdown via simultaneous catch were widely questioned in the aftermath of the game, drawing comments from the games announcers, NFL players, and the media, as well as locked-out officials. The NFL subsequently released a statement defending the touchdown ruling. The controversial ending followed weeks of criticism regarding the quality of officiating by replacement officials employed by the NFL during the 2012 NFL referee lockout.[7] Two days after the game, the NFL and the NFL Referees Association announced they had reached an agreement to end the lockout.[8] NFL commissioner Roger Goodell acknowledged that the negative attention the game drew to the referee situation was an impetus for ending the labor dispute. Now nearly two years to the date, the two teams will face off in the season opener. It will be a matchup of two division winners from a year ago. Seahawks went 13-3 in the 2013 regular season Seahawks then defeated the New Orleans Saints 23-15 in the NFC Divisional Playoffs Seahawks then defeated their NFC West rivals the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 to advance to the Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history. As we mentioned above, on February 2nd in MetLife Stadium, the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII to take home the franchises first ever Super Bowl title. The Packers also made the playoffs in 2013 but it was more of a struggle for them to get there. On November 4th the Packers came into the game against the Chicago Beas 5-2. That night, their playoff hopes took a big hit as Aaron Rodgers went down with a broken collarbone and would miss the next two months due to injury. In the time Rodgers was out, Packers struggled going 2-5-1 in that stretch. But remarkably Packers in Week 17 got Aaron Rodgers back just in time for a winner take all affair in Chicago for the NFC North Title. With the Packers trailing 28-27 in the final minute, on 4th down and 6, Aaron Rodgers threw a rainbow touchdown pass to Randall Cobb to deliver the Packers the game winning score as they beat the Bears 33-28 to take home their 3rd consecutive NFC North Title and 5th consecutive playoff appearance. The very next week in the Wildcard Playoff Game at Lambeau Field, the Packers hosted the San Francisco 49ers, and fought valiantly. However the outcome did not go their way as the 49ers defeated the Packers 23-20 on a walk off last second field goal. Now tomorrow night it is time to start a new NFL season.
