Tomorrow (Sep 2) the concluding volume of Jeff VanderMeers Southern Reach Trilogy will be published. The first two volumes are beautifully written--visceral, tangible evocations of character and place that somehow only reinforce the deep unknown that characterizes any honest encounter with either. Strangeness is everywhere in real life; great fiction helps us wake up and feel it again in all its weirdness, wonder and menace. I loved both Annihilation and Authority, and cant wait to read the series finale.
