Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 12th is Primary Election Day. This Primary is very important for Milwaukee County and communities all across Wisconsin. Ive had more than a few people contact me wondering who I will be supporting at the polls. If you wish to consider my choices, you can add that into your decision making before you head to your polling place tomorrow. Please take the time to decide for yourself who you will support based on where you stand on key issues. The polls are open 7am-8pm. Remember, you do not need an ID to vote, but will be asked to sign the log book. Here’s who I am supporting and why... Mary Burke for Governor – Mary has been running a strong, positive campaign for Governor against someone who has divided our state for his own political gain. This primary won’t be very close but giving your vote to Mary will provide some good momentum going into November. John Lehman For Lt. Gov. – John is currently a state senator and good friend. Before being in public office, he was a teacher in Racine. John knows education better than anyone and will be a strong messenger to talk about how Wisconsin has cut K-12 education over the last 4 years more than any other time in our state’s history and more than any other state in the country besides Alabama. John won a tough recall back in 2012 and has since been redistricted out of his own seat. Helping him stick around as Lt. Governor will be key in getting our state moving forward again. Jon Richards for Attorney General – Jon was actually the first Democratic elected official I met after deciding to get more involved in politics back in 2005. He was (and still is) a state rep with a lot of promise and a strong work ethic. There are some great people in this race but Jon is the only one who has gained support from all 72 counties of Wisconsin and the one with the most experience in writing laws and working in the legislature for 16 years. Lieutenant Chris Moews for Milwaukee County Sheriff – By finally beating David Clarke, Chris will restore integrity back to an office that sorely needs it. Back in 2002, Sheriff Clarke was appointed to be Sheriff by Republican Governor Scott McCallum. Even though he’s a staunch Republican (he refused to provide security to President Obama when he was in Milwaukee but later sent security to Mitt Romney in Waukesha), he runs as a Democrat. He has since broadcast ads (using public funds) telling people that dialing 9-1-1 isn’t there best option and that they should get a gun instead. He is an embarrassment and we need to retire Sheriff David Clarke from public office so he can pursue his entertainment career without threatening public safety and damaging our communitys credibility any longer. Chris Moews is a strong candidate and the only guy I know who gets up earlier than me to work on the issues he cares about. He’s been running for Sheriff for 4 years and there is no doubt he will devote himself to our community. Gwen Moore for Congress– District 4 – This race will not be close. Among many other great things, Gwen was the lead author on the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. She is a great voice for our community and I have no doubt she will continue to be a great leader for our district. Rob Zerban for Congress – District 1 – Rob has been a local elected official as well as a small business owner. When he ran against Paul Ryan in 2012, he gave Ryan the closest congressional race in the state, despite Ryan being on the national ticket. Rob is a strong campaigner and has devoted himself once again to beating the politician trying to dismantle Medicare and the programs that care for our poorest citizens. See you at the polls! And dont forget to bring a friend!
