Tomorrow is a day that I have to admit that Im getting older and need some help. Ive worn glasses since 1974, bi-focals since I was 39. Ive been reminded for years that my hearing isnt what it used to be. In fact it is lousy according the ENT a couple of weeks ago. In 2013 I just passed the hearing test for being a VA Volunteer driver, and realizing I probably wouldnt pass it this year- I retired from being a driver. When I had my hearing test a couple of weeks ago- they removed a nice chunk of wax from my left ear drum... Did the hearing test after the wax was removed. There was leftover Q-Tip cotton. I was asked of I ever have used Q-Tips inside my ears? Yes! She had the proof! So the results were My hearing is shot- right ear worse then the left. It was recommended I get hearing aids! I did agree and tomorrow is the day! I dont think that growing up in the 50s and 60s helped. Sitting next to amps in dance clubs in DC didnt help, or loud music in general. Never wore ear plugs when cutting grass. Having an ill fitting flying helmet on my first flight in a B-52 didnt help. Ringing in both ears. Im hearing what dogs hear when some one blows a dog whistle... I can hear everything I want to hear... I dont turn up the TV sound... So to amuse my wife and having followed through with the request from my doctor- Im actually going through with it, tomorrow! Oh, did I say my new glasses came in! Gee- now Ill have to listen to my wife. Maybe, I wont turn them on!
