Tomorrow is the 70th Anniversary of D Day. On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline, to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. The cost in lives on D-Day was high. More than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice allowed more than 100,000 Soldiers to begin the slow, hard slog across Europe, to defeat Adolph Hitler’s crack troops, and ultimately stop the Nazi power grab, and incomprehensible genocide of European Jews. Tomorrow, a D Day paratrooper, now 93 years old, will jump out of a plane again, and parachute onto Normandy. Why? Because we need to realize that it wasnt that long ago when a tyrant convinced a continent to murder six million men, women, and children. We act as if its ancient history. Its not. There are still people living who experienced it. They are people from a better generation than we. Yet, it happened. It can happen again. God Bless the greatest generation.
