Tomorrow is the ninety-seventh birthday of the conductor/composer Anton Coppola, uncle of Francis Ford Coppola and great-uncle of Jason Schwartzman. He, along with the veteran Julius Rudel, may be the only conductor still with us who worked with Mme Nelli. She sang under his baton at the Cincinnati Opera (at the Zoo) in La traviata (with John Alexander and Giuseppe Valdengo, 1953) and Aida (with Cesare Bardelli--father of Society member Vera Bardelli Perinati--as Amonasro, 1954). Happy birthday, maestro!
