Tomorrow marks 4 years that Wards Leukemia has been in remission, - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow marks 4 years that Wards Leukemia has been in remission, almost two years that hes been finished his maintenance chemo, and about six months since he was able to rejoin a volunteer fire company and do what hes most passionate about. Its not often that we talk about what we went through but every now and then I think its important to remember how close we came to losing him and how hard of a battle it was. It still amazes me the strength he had to take on the challenge of everything - PICC lines, spinal taps, bone marrow tests, multiple week hospital stays for treatment, daily injections at home (I def dont miss giving those!). But we couldnt have made it without all of you who helped us in so many ways. We are still so grateful to everyone who was there for us. So a big thank you again - celebrating his remission is something you all deserve to share in too. A special thanks to Nancy Miller Grego for visiting him at Penn and helping me decode all the confusing medical jargon, to Charles Templeton for cooking us countless delicious meals, to Steve Hazzard (and Roz) and Sean P Callahan for always keeping in contact with him and stopping by the house to visit, to Roger Smith for shoveling all 400 feet of my driveway every week so the home nurse could reach us and for always being here no matter what I needed and Suzanne Krystopa Smith for helping to keep my house disinfected for months at time, for keeping me sane and reminding me I had the strength to get through it all. Thank you all so much, we love you!! And it should come as no surprise that we are going to Disney World this weekend to celebrate at Villains Unleashed!!! Heres to 4 years cancer free and to everyone who helped us along the way. Love you all!!
