Tomorrow morning, the body of my grandmother will be lowered into - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow morning, the body of my grandmother will be lowered into the frosted ground and covered in soil. The trip to attend, more than 12 hours driving with my gang of wildlings and without my Right Arm, was daunting and my dad requested I stay home and off the highway. Im unsure if I made the right decision staying home. Either way, tomorrow morning there will be a High Mass. Most of it will be spoken in Ukrainian. There will be a lot of incense. Personally? I HATE ceremonial incense. These days, in the haze of a doulas long/inspiring night of life, in the glow of Thanksgiving Weekend, and in the stark reality of death, I find myself fairly...direct. Its GOOD to walk through these seasons. Its GOOD to have reminders, boulders in our path, to process and mark and give an invitation to change. Another thing I am considering is that I am no fan of discussions on the assurance of salvation. It has become amusing to me how smug we are in our quotations. Yes, you can convince me that he/she is definitely with the Lord forever. Or definitely not. Yay and way to go! But know that I am entirely disinterested in your appeal, conclusions, and statements. Oh, unless, of course, you have been there. If you have had that privilege of departing the waking life of earth and journeying Across the Veil and have seen the face of the living God and KNOW his mystery, well, then all bets are off, youve got it. As it stands, I am entirely caught up in the mystery. I am enamored by the invitation to KNOW God now. To be an eternal being capable of living in relationship with Someone so powerful and wise and...unfathomable. I am not going to express where the Life of my Grandmother currently resides. It is potentially devastating. It is potentially exhilarating. What I am confident is this: God IS. He is present and Good, terrifying and just. Today, in this minute and hour and week, I am invited to participate on earth with mercy, actions, forgiveness, and grace. And so I will.
