Tomorrow my petitions will be filed to be on the ballot of the Democratic Primary for Representative to the General Assembly! Thanks to all who helped with this these past few weeks. I was asked about this a lot so Ill explain - each candidate for office has to collect X number of signatures from the filing party members to get on the ballot. It was 300 for this office. After Im on the ballot, Ill appear as a choice for the Democratic Primary. For Republicans who have inquired about signing or voting - you can DEFINITELY vote for me in November! :) (Thats the general election, and assuming I am the Democratic nominee, Ill be running against Matt Baker in November.) If youre a Republican, you wont see me on your ballot, but dont worry! Youll see me there in November! So, this was my first time doing a mass signature collection, and I definitely couldnt have done it without some help! Lots of folks spent a lot of time, and yesterday my wife and I took 5 of our kids up to Elkland to walk around and collect the last of our needed signatures. I took pairs of kids around town and after a few blocks, swapped with another pair while my wife drove around with our van, got food and snacks and gave us a place to warm up. It was a long day but it was fun! The most enthusiastic signature-getter was Esther, my 5-year-old. Shes an enthusiastic girl by nature, but as she was walking around with me holding the clipboard, she also had a bag of fruit snacks. She explained: each signature I get, I get to eat a fruit snack. Just one for each signature. No signature, no fruit snack! (She made us this rule - I didnt tell her to do it! :) One place where a nice couple both signed, she said OOOH, now I get to eat 2 fruit snacks! They laughed. The kids also enjoyed seeing all the various animals along the way. One of them remarked boy, Democrats sure do have lots of great animals! So, we had a good time, but it is a relief to have the signatures part done! Looking forward to the rest of the campaign! THANKS to all who signed, collected, or have otherwise supported the campaign already!
