Tomorrow night makes one year since my first puppy and I went - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow night makes one year since my first puppy and I went together to see him to the rainbow bridge. Mr. Chocolate was adopted by my family as a very old dog from the shelter where I later started working (and currently still work, and have saved many, many, many Shih Tzus and Lhasas because of the great love I shared with Mr. C). I went through a very tough time in my life and my parents suggested that I keep him at my house overnight to cheer me up. I never had a dog of my own before--I was a complete cat person. But Mr. C came over for the night and he never went back again. I only got around 1 1/2 years with this amazing, demanding, master scavenging, lovable rascal. But he taught me so very much about how to love and how hard it is to be a fur mama but how very worth it the experience truly is. He had a series of health declines in his last year and after multiple seizures, unexplainable Hairloss, losing lots of weight, and overall just not being the proud, irascible Lhasa he once was, I decided it was time to give him peace. I miss him all the time. I have fostered and otherwise aided adoptions for hundreds of Tzus and Lhasas and no one has been like him. But my heart and home are still full of his furry friends. When I looked last week to see what the date had been that we had him put down, I realized it was exactly the same projected date of birth for our Shih Tzu puppy Nibbler, adopted from the same shelter as Mr. C. I like to think that Mr. C knew his mama was gonna need another baby to help fill the void in my heart and that he had a hand (paw) in Nibbler coming my way. So tomorrow I am not mourning Mr. C, but I instead celebrate my puppys birthday, and the lives of the many dogs I have fostered because I loved him--that seems like a pretty good legacy for this regal dog. Mama loves you, mr. Chocs! RaRaRoo!! Until we meet again, old friend.
