Tomorrow night travel around WNC will likely be very treacherous - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow night travel around WNC will likely be very treacherous with precipitation switching from rain to sleet, then snow. An upper level low will form taking a Miller A track up the coast. These are notoriously difficult to predict, but this has been signaled somewhat for over a week. A system like this is likely to bring a few surprises to those who arent prepared, and its best to not be caught off guard. Around 1.5 of liquid will fall between tomorrow night and Friday afternoon around WNC. How quickly the high pressure up north pulls out to sea and how strong the dynamics are under the upper level low will all effect our snowfall accumulation. If temps rise quickly WNC is only looking at a few inches, but if things really get going with the upper level low we could be looking at 8+. Of course those in the higher elevations should stay all snow/sleet with anyone over 3500 receiving the most. The Boone area should stay all ice/snow for most of the event. Temperatures will warm Saturday into Sunday melting most if not all accumulation by the beginning of the week. Stay tuned for updates on the upper level lows progression.
