Tomorrow, on April 24 at 8h30 EST we will be presenting some of the work we recently did with and for the World Bank in Albania. So if you are interested in what affordable, open source and off the shelf technology can do for improving spatial data and, by implication, security of tenure in developing economies, join us as described below. I hope to see a lot of my colleagues from the land surveying, land administration and geomatics practitioners during this web seminar. Unmanned Aerial Systems: Innovation for Affordable, Accelerated and Improved Spatial Data Acquisition Thursday, April 24, 2014, 8:30-10:00AM EST / 2:30-4:00PM CEST The presentation can be downloaded at https://yousendit/download/elNJNHArK3g4NVc1eDhUQw How to participate ------------------------------------------------------- To start the online meeting ------------------------------------------------------- 1. The work was conducted in Albania under a Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Region FY14 Innovation Grant. UAVs now come in small, portable versions, yet can produce better accuracy results than conventional surveying and mapping methods. The team will present the findings and lessons learned, and showcase the potential to use UAVs in many sectors including: cadastral mapping/registration, infrastructure projects (roads, energy and dams), urban planning, and disaster risk management. During this eLearning forum, we will explore and discuss the new opportunities that UAVs present as well as how they can be used to improve project design and implementation in the international development community. Agenda (ECST time) 2:30 PM - Introductory remarks Gavin Adlington, Lead Land Administration Specialist, Europe & Central Asia Region, The World Bank 2:40 PM - Introduction: Use UAVs in Land Administration and Other Sectors Kathrine Kelm, Senior Land Administration Specialist, Europe & Central Asia Region, The World Bank 2:50 PM - Technical Aspects of Spatial Data Capture Using UAVs Walter Volkmann, CEO, Micro Aerial Projects LLC 3:15 PM - UAVs Support to Wider E-government Platform and National Spatial Data Infrastructure Rumyana Tonchovska, Senior IT Specialist, FAO 3:25 PM - Open discussion 3:50 PM - Key Takeaways from the Discussion Kathrine Kelm, Senior Land Administration Specialist, Europe & Central Asia Region, The World Bank 4.00 PM - Closing Gavin Adlington, Lead Land Administration Specialist, Europe & Central Asia Region, The World Bank
