Tomorrow...the 4th of July. Our countrys birthday so to speak. The day of the common people. All of us. It is each of ours day. White, Black Brown...native, immigrant, male and female. Straight, gay, confused...whatever. You BELONG. You belong to an experiment......something in the whole scheme of things still very young......238 years young. We havent gotten it perfect yet....maybe we never will. But if we LISTEN......to each other, If we EMBRACE compromise....if we let our HEARTS lead us without malice.....prejudice.....or hatred...then perhaps we can edge it a little closer to that perfection we all want. Our forefathers were NOT perfect......they lived within a world we have moved beyond...although they had fears....concerns...and hopes we may share even now. But they did what they did.....in hopes of a better future, for themselves and those who would live on after them. Between 1783 and 1801 this country was rocked by many events that almost ended the grand experiment before it began. We have arrived at yet another crossroads in our youthful history.....and we must choose...whether mindless, uncompromising, divisiveness will over come any possible good......or we will learn.....that each of us has a voice..and each voice has a place. Each voice...even those most recently arrived here...has a DREAM. Its the dream that began on hundreds of sailing ships.......days spent in damp cargo holds... hoping for a better life. That they as individuals can be free.....can live without fear. And can hope to see their children live a better life then they did. Happy Fourth of July.
