Tomorrow the Maremma lgd pups turn 5 weeks old. These pups are very much alert and have recently taken over the barn. They dont care that 18 alpacas also live in it. The pups march down the entire aisle now and the alpacas part the way so they can move past. This probably makes the pups feel even bigger than they actually are. It wont be long before I find them on the side paddock. You would think that 4 wk old pups would be slow and clumsy. This is so not true. They can run now and do so quickly. Many times I cannot get into through the door without one or two of them sticking their bodies halfway in wanting to follow me. Tommy will have to screw up a board across the doorway which will buy me a little time. The Maremma pups are super playful and very mouthy right now. Their teeth are growing in quickly. I know this because they are constantly biting my leg. Its cute now but I already have to tell them no because it wont be so cute in a couple of weeks when they are biting holes in my pants. I cant tell you how many pants have been ruined by 8 years of raising Maremma pups. Also, now is the time we must start to puppy proof cords and hoses by sticking them through pvc pipes. I was really mad the time they chewed through the electrical cord of my $500 livestock scale. That wont happen again! Yes puppies can be a hassle because they get into everything but they are super cute and fun too! I seem to have them really spoiled at this point. Whenever I pick them up they throw themselves backwards because they are used to me laying them in my arms like a baby so I can rub their little bellies. I cant believe they will be leaving me in less than a month. Some of the new owners have already started to contact me about when they will pick up. #bittersweet
