Tomorrow will be the years first opportunity for the annual Spring polar plunge. I intend to join a great group en route to Devils Bath Tub in Fort Blackmore, Virginia . The trek will also function to raise funds and awareness for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation. The regulars of this clan are a wonderful group that consists of talented photographers and avid hikers. We each share a love for Nature and the great outdoors. A number of us intend to partake of the Hillbilly Baptism. The waters of The Tub are consistently in the high forties and present quite the shock to the senses even before the sound of the emerging splash is fully perceptible. The area offers an emerging variety of Spring flowers and wildlife both great and small. It is a short hike of only 4 miles, but the technical merit rests in the 46 round trip stream crossings. Most of them will be knee to thigh deep. The rugged rocky surface is narly and creates an abundance of shock to the feet, ankles, and hips. No matter how many trips one may claim to The Tub, there is always something hiding just beneath the surface or just around the next bend that is guaranteed to be a first! We have our work cut out for us, so I must now say Gnight! Ooo-Rah!
