Tomorrows Lunar New Year Celebration with Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will includes a performance by award-winning Kuiaban artist Xing Ye Ma. Also called bamboo rap, Kuiaban is a form of oral storytelling popular in northern China, where the narrator accompanies himself using a set of hand-held bamboo clappers -- check out this video for a sample. A bit different from the rap were used to hearing in Brooklyn, but very cool! And yes, there will be a translation provided!
