Toms River Police Departments Operation Brain Freeze has begun! Kids - Free Ice Cream Program if you wear a bike helmet! Toms River is excited to announce the inaugural Toms River Summer Bicycle Safety Program. The goal is to help increase awareness and compliance of helmet laws, ultimately reducing the amount of serious head injuries that occur as a result of bicycle accidents. This initiative allows patrol officers to positively reward the children of Toms River who are seen wearing bicycle helmets. When a patrol officer observes a child wearing a helmet while operating a bicycle, the youth will then receive a voucher for free ice cream redeemable at participating locations. **It is important to note, that the vouchers will only be given out by Toms River Police Officers who are uniformed, on duty, and in marked police cars.** This program is funded through a grant from the David D. Hammer Foundation, a nonprofit charity that promotes children’s safety as well as donating bicycle helmets to children.
