Tonalea Elementary School, Hohokam Elementary School, Yavapai Elementary School, Supai Middle School and Coronado High School.....We have great kids in our southern Scottsdale neighborhoods, attractive and safe neighborhoods, solid housing stock, but our schools and education programs need our help. Read on: Scottsdale Coalition neighbors, friends and critics.....(it is the end of the week and it is my turn to do the input). It has been a busy week for the Executive Board with school district issues and meetings regarding all of the schools in the Coronado Complex schools. As a Hohokam grad and Cornado High School grad and the mother of two sons who attended those same schools and graduated, too, I am chagrined! It seems our southern schools and the kids who attend them have become an after thought losing programs and subsequently losing students who chose to follow programs North or enroll in Charter Schools. It is time to remedy that, but it is going to take joint action from all of the parent groups and neighbors who value education, our schools and know that our kids need the best of both to succeed. I dont hesitate to mention that schools have been and will be critical to property values throughout our neighborhoods. So, here are some opportunities to learn about and weigh in on SUSD Elementary Schools Master Plan Community Meetings. Please make every effort to attend one of these meetings, if there doesnt seem to be one in your area dont hesitate to attend one elsewhere. Time constraints dictate attending many events but this time we can all participate. Do it.....it will be good for all of us.
