Tongues on Fire The bible has much to say about those who do not control their tongues. Because the tongue is a mighty tool of satan, he freely uses it to kill, steal, and destroy. And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself. James 3:6 (NLT). That old adage that we used as kids...sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me is an outright lie from satan, himself. O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will He increase your punishment? Psalms 120:3 (NLT). All the wars ever fought on this earth started with words. Marriages have dissolved, murders have increased, innocent people have gone to prison, suicides have gone rampant, lives have been destroyed, and myriads of other evil things have occurred all because of the tongue bringing forth words of evil. But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. Matthew 5:22 (NLT) Failure to control our tongues cause us to face the punishments and curses shown many times in the bible. Those who live by the sword will die by the sword can also pertain to the sword of the tongue; as well as Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7 (KJV). The book of Revelations refers to Jesus on a white horse with a two edged sword coming out of his mouth, which is the Word of God. And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you. Matthew 12:36-37 (NLT). Words can heal or destroy; and it is the heart that conjures up the words. But the words you speak come from the heart: thats what defiles you. Matthew 15:18 (NLT). Its not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth. Matthew 15:11 (NLT). We can bless our neighbors, spread love and joy, bring peace to others and to ourselves by watching what we say to people. Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalms 141:3 (NIV). The wrong words, without thinking, can destroy things that we worked years to achieve. If you claim to be religious; but, dont control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. James 1:26 (NLT). There are promises for those who watch their fiery tongues: Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything. Proverbs 13:3 (NLT). If we discipline ourselves on controlling our tongues, we can control the rest of our lives: Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. James 3:2 (NLT).
