Tonight - 7 pm - if you have the time and inclination, perhaps - TopicsExpress

Tonight - 7 pm - if you have the time and inclination, perhaps youd like to tell Glastonbury Town Council what you think and how you feel about their decision... After months of discussion and debate, including the research and recommendations of a working group, and correspondence with the relative authority (see attached letter from the Windsor Herald) - the response to the motion I posed at the Town Council’s meeting on Tuesday 12th March 2013, concerning the appropriateness of the Town Councils heraldic device is that the Conservative members - supported by independent councillors - do not believe that there is anything wrong with the current ungranted heraldry and motto, and they will petition the College of Arms for it to be officially granted. They make this decision without feeling the need to consult the whole community. They make this decision ignoring the fact that - according the 2011 census - 47.1% of Glastonburys Community are not Christian; and that the 52.9% who are Christian includes the members of ALL the Christian denominations. They make this decision disregarding the findings of their own working group... Therefore: May The Church of England Flourish will become the your towns civic motto. The Mitre and Crossed Crosiers will become your towns civic shield. If you feel this is inappropriate, unrepresentative; that your Town Council is choosing to demonstrate its support for only one section of your community whilst ignoring the wealth of diversity that Glastonbury truly is... then now is the time speak. If you feel motivated, then please come to the full Town Council meeting tonight - Tuesday, 12th August - which is upstairs at the Town Hall, on Magdalene Street - where you can address any concerns you may have to the Town Council during the public participation section (between 7 pm and 7.15 pm) - to do this, you should either 1) arrive shortly before 7 pm and tell the Clerk - Jane Czornij - that you wish to speak 2) stand up at the beginning of the meeting when the Mayor asks if there is anyone wishing to speak 3) notify the Clerks office in advance of the meeting that you would like to speak at the meeting. Notification can be made either by telephone: 01458 831769 or by email: [email protected] Alternatively you can tell the Councillors how you feel about their decision by writing to the Town Clerks email: [email protected] - addressing your email to Glastonbury Town Councillors, and asking for your email to be read out as correspondence at the full Council meeting. This opportunity to ensure Glastonbury Town Council symbolically demonstrate that they represent the whole community did not come easily. Once the College of Arms grants the shield, this opportunity will not come again.
