Tonight Gene Harvey and I got to see a special screening of a new - TopicsExpress

Tonight Gene Harvey and I got to see a special screening of a new movie starring Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner & Jared Leto called Dallas Buyers Club, WOW! It is a very powerful film, specially for those of us who are able to say we lived through that earlier period of the AIDS epidemic. I never cared very much for Mr. McConaughey but I gained an enormous amount of respect for the man tonight, as well as for his art. I have to admit that it was rather upsetting to sit through such a raw representation of a time and an experience I never expected to survive much less sit through again in a movie theater. I was afraid before going, not sure about how it might hit my PTSD, yet I couldnt stay away, I had to go and Im glad I did, Ive been having some really nice visits with some very old ghosts this evening. The drive back from Dallas takes a good hour and a half and with Genes focus on his I-Phone I had a long dark highway practically to myself and my old friends, all of us speeding down I-35E at 75per and it really felt good to see their faces again. At the same time it was so difficult to sit there and watch Mr. McConaughey, Id heard that he lost 40lbs. for this film just a day or two ago and so his weight loss didnt get to me it was that at that weight he looks so much like my best friend JB, who died in 91, that I had to remind myself to breath. It was hard for both Gene and I, he was diagnosed right at the time when the Drs. were insisting that their HIV Patients take AZT and like so many guys he did what the Dr. said. Some how, thank god, he has survived as well and lucky for me, he seems to want to share his life with me, knowing that will help to keep the PTSD at bay. Right now though it is 12:15 am and Im done for today, however I wanted to get those thoughts about the film down before my head fills up with all kinds of other shit. Im anxious to hit the bed, I think I might just have a dream and introduce all my dead lovers to my living lover, for some reason I suspect that they will all get along famously, LOL! PS Ron Goldberg, thank you so very much for giving my name to Sally, I owe you a big one. Gene and I were sitting there in our seats before the film started and this woman comes over to where we are sitting and pulls out a note pad and announces she is a reporter from the Dallas Paper, she took a few notes and then asked for my number and said she would be in touch, YIKES! Let you all know if she ever calls. Ill write more about the film tomorrow night maybe. Sweet Dreams Everybody.
