Tonight I am wrapping up my Journey to the Crown interview. Personally, I am tired of talking about myself and I am certain you have had enough of Tammy!! How did your family influence you? The support of a loving family is priceless. Being the youngest of four children, I had a great support system. I won in a gown that was made by my talented mother. My brother, Michael, picked the material out and purchased it for me. My family, as in ALL of my family, traveled to Atlantic City to cheer me on at the Miss America Pageant. Im sure my Daddy sold a cow or two to make that trip!! lol I didnt realize it at the time, but I am certain there were a lot of sacrifices made in order for me to do the things I did and for the family to be there to support me but they never told me that. They just showed up and loved me! The day after I was crowned Miss Alabama was Fathers Day. The Birmingham News interviewed my Daddy and he told them that he never asked anything more out of me than he asked out of his old mule and that was just to do my best. What are some of your fondest memories? My Homecoming is a sweet memory. The people of my hometown of Section, worked hard to prepare for my Homecoming. It was held around the Labor Day Festivities. They organized a parade and had numerous luncheons and dinners in my honor and I was thrilled to have Highway 35 in the city limits of Section named Tammy Little Drive. Thank you Lowell Barron and others who made that happen. Of coarse, July 4, 1984 was special because I had the honor of welcoming President Reagan to Alabama. I was honored to be seated with him on stage at a rally in Birmingham and he and Mrs. Reagan invited me to Washington D.C where I spent a week touring the Memorials and museums and the White House. I also met with President Bush and had the honor of being at several events with him. He gave me the nicest compliment after I finished singing the National Anthem. He told me I have perfect pitch! It was exciting being in the presence of celebrities like Bob Hope at the Childrens Hospital and again in Pensacola along with Barbara Mandrell at the Air Force Base. The Blue Angels did a show for us and that was a thrill. I was in attendance at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame event with the Commodores, Tammy Wynette, Hank Williams Jr., the group Alabama, and others with roots in the state of Alabama. All of these things were exciting but certainly my most rewarding and humbling appearances were spent with the children and the elderly and the Veterans. I am blessed. Miss Alabama was stepping stone to many adventures in my life. I was one of six chosen from the Miss America contestants to be prat of the Miss America Showstoppers. I used that experience when I lived in Nashville and New York performing at resorts, conventions, on cruise ships and concerts. I have traveled the world getting paid to entertain an audience! My life has been enriched by the people I have met and the different cultures and customs I was introduced to as I traveled. Thirty years later I live in my hometown of Section and I work on Tammy Little Drive . Like many, I am a busy Mom. Hannah is a senior at Auburn University, Jeremiah attends Gadsden State on a basketball scholarship and Caleb is a student/ athlete at Sylvania High School where Glen is a Coach and Teacher. I raise funds and awareness for ALS in hopes of finding a cure in memory of my Daddy, Wayne Little and I attend Section Baptist Church. Now that my children are grown, I would love to entertain, emcee and speak at events more often. While I am often defined as Miss Alabama and certainly proud to have been Miss Alabama 1984, my philosophy is, Queen for a day, Mom for Life.
