Tonight I feel an overwhelming urge to write after seeing Selma. Personally I avoid our mainstream media due to its fear based coverage and illegitimate truth however, when you face history on the bigscreen, you cant help but face yourself in a whole new way (at least I did). As tears of agony emerged during many parts of the movie, I felt a mere fraction of what was experienced during the time of the civil rights movement for so many including MLK who we honor today. The movie left me asking, where are we today? What did all of that struggle and persistence become? Thankfully, we can all vote. However, our two party system once again restricts us to choose between two sides that do little good for the people of this nation. What do we do? We face ourselves. We actively change for the better and we act in love. The wars are not our wars and this includes the horrific stateside violence that has recently been strung across our media for all to see. The way you respond to life has a direct effect on our world and it is time for us all to be our best selves so the collective can truly rise up. I pledge allegiance to myself...and I suggest you do the same. The power of the heart is real. So open up wide and let us all take flight!
