Tonight I had one of those remarkable instances, those once in a life-time experiences, …You all remember the night in which I asked a man for ID and he provided an expired license and then proceeded to produce a Military ID? Well tonight, he returned, at least in spirit. Another gentleman walked into the bar and asked if this was Graces tavern? I answered, NO. This was GRACE TAVERN. The gentleman, short cropped and rather well appareled in Eagles gear replied, A friend of mine recommended this place. He said you guys made his day and provided him with the first recognition of his time served….. I interrupted, Time served? I am just for back from Afghanistan. And one of my brothers said to me- I walked into a bar in South Philly and this bartender asked me for ID, when I produced an expired Philadelphia license and then presented my Military ID, the bar tender said, While I dont respect the mission, I respect the men and Women. Hey I am not looking for a free beer. But my brother said to me, there is this bar in South Philly, try a Grace burger and be thankful that you are home. It is what we went there for. Yes Fergus Carey, I bought this guest a free beer. And as I handed his beer to him I said with a sense of trepidation and absolute respect, Thank you for your Service.
