Tonight, I had the honor to attend and give some remarks at Camelot Civic League’s 3rd Annual Community Appreciation Banquet. Loyalty is hard to find but a good friend to me is Dr. Charles H. Bowens, III, the President of the Camelot Civic League. Dr. Bowens’ leadership continues to communicate to people their worth, and potential so clearly that they come to see it themselves. The Camelot Civic League, your focus, dedication and quite frankly basic hard work have made that possible. When you elevate the human condition, you see everything gets better when you get better As Mayor, were I to look at Chesapeake from the outside, I would see a city already beginning to achieve its manifest destiny, where opportunities abound and no one is denied a chance to succeed. From the inside, I see a city with a compassion that has no limits and a boundless energy and commitment to do well. What I also believe - what I also know - is that Chesapeake has an abundance of resources, the greatest of which is the spirit of the people who live and work here. When we harness that spirit and energy then our city moves forward and up. I want thank the Camelot Civic League for all you continue to do. God Bless
